The proposal, introduced on October 1, 2025, aims to diversify Sweden’s state reserves, which are currently dominated by gold and foreign currencies.

Funded Through Seized Cryptocurrencies

The motion suggests that the reserve could be budget-neutral, funded through cryptocurrencies already confiscated by judicial authorities. Since late 2024, Swedish law has permitted the seizure of crypto assets even if they were not the central element of an investigation. This legal framework, the MPs argue, creates a unique opportunity to build a strategic reserve without additional taxpayer cost.

Protecting the Krona’s Monetary Independence

Dioukarev and Perez stress that their proposal is not about replacing Sweden’s national currency, the krona, nor about launching a central bank digital currency (CBDC).

Sweden's Parliament acts on #Bitcoin! 🇸🇪

After JAN3's presentation at the Swedish Parliament, MPs @DennisDioukarev and David Perez submitted a motion to establish a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and, crucially, to formally declare that Sweden will not introduce a CBDC. pic.twitter.com/T8mVFxlGki
— JAN3 (@JAN3com) October 1, 2025

Instead, they frame the move as a safeguard for Sweden’s monetary sovereignty in the face of growing global interest in bitcoin reserves.

A Strategic Debate for the Future

Although the proposal remains under parliamentary review, it sparks a significant debate about the future role of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in state-level economic strategy. As more countries explore or even accumulate digital assets, Sweden’s initiative raises the question: will other European nations follow this path?

Two Swedish Members of Parliament, Dennis Dioukarev and David Perez of the Sweden Democrats party, have submitted a motion to […]

[35,18
36,928,929
post-8447","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-bitcoin-vijesti","category-news","tag-btc","tag-reserve","tag-sweden
["GET
