Verve wallet, a cutting-edge smart wallet architecture intended for low-cost embedded wallet creation and user onboarding, is presently being built by Jure and his team.

The team building Verve also includes Dujo Perdić, a blockchain engineer, and Paula Rosan, a UI/UX designer. All three are members of Superteam Balkan, and have been building various software together for over 6 years, launching mutliple SaaS projects. Before Verve, they also competed and won a $20,000 prize on the Bonkathon, a hackathon sponsored by the $BONK token, with a consumer app called “Bonk Art”.

Jure and his team recently had a great streak of success with Verve, winning a number of awards in Superteam Balkan’s Buildstation hackathon and Colosseum’s Radar hackathon. Let’s explore Jure’s perspectives on the future of Solana and blockchain technology as well as his experiences and views as a developer.

Verve team: Paula, Jure and Dujo

Can you share your journey into blockchain development?

I’ve been doing software development professionally for over 10 years now. I’ve worked for SaaS companies, founded my own SaaS company, got funding, worked as a freelancer, bootstrapped another SaaS, and so on. During most of that time, I knew what Ethereum was, but I was never very serious about going into blockchain development, as I had other priorities. Mind you, I always loved the concept of self-custody and permissionless action, so I wanted to find a way into blockchain development. An opportunity arose wherein I’d be able to work as a freelancer for an open-source project within the ecosystem, and I took it, basically making myself learn everything I need to know along the way. After that, I wanted to continue, and would you know it, a Solana Buildstation was being held 300 meters away from where I live, so I just decided to show up. I was met with an amazing group of people who were ready to help me and my team out with joining the Solana ecosystem and working within it, and since then I never looked back!

Tell us about Verve wallet.

Verve wants to create super-cheap smart accounts. In “wallet” terms, it means that we want to provide app developers with a way of giving their users an embedded wallet, one that is available directly within the app, with no need for extensions. In addition to this, Verve wallets exist forever, as all their data is stored directly on the Solana blockchain. What will set us apart in the eyes of app developers is the fact that Verve wallets are 1000x cheaper to create and maintain than what’s currently available in the embedded wallet space on Solana. And for the users – they get to enjoy safer on-chain transactions, and they don’t have to deal with seed phrases, as Verve will offer different kinds of recovery mechanisms. One-click wallet creation is simply the bare minimum for great in-app UX these days, and we want to achieve this guarantee so that there is zero friction when users are firing up the latest hot Solana-powered app.

How challenging was it to work on a project like this, and how significant was the impact and support of the people and team around you?

I consider myself lucky to have a team as great as Paula and Dujo. Creating novelties always comes with its challenges and uncertainties, and both of them have proven themselves more than capable of handling uncertainty and figuring out ways to make everything work. Although 5 weeks is pretty long for a hackathon, Radar is a pressure cooker environment – you have to deliver. In the last few days of the hackathon, Dujo unblocked us on ZK compression which was a key part of the Verve puzzle! And, Paula was instrumental to the core look of the wallet and the way we presented it in our pitch. Both are amazing at what they do and I wouldn’t be able to do this without them by my side.

You’ve been winning hackathons recently—first $3,000 in Belgrade, then $10,000 at the Radar Zero Knowledge Side Track, and another $10,000 in the Radar Infrastructure Main Track. What are your thoughts on this streak of success?

I personally feel extremely happy that Verve got such recognition during this hackathon season. We worked extremely hard to present the idea – our final Colosseum presentation has almost no similarities to the one presented in Belgrade, and we still think it could use some work! The money is great, and we’ll use it to support ourselves in obtaining funding so that we can continue our work and deliver Verve to the world. However, it’s the recognition we received and the people we met along the way that matter the most. We’ve been able to talk to top people in the field, including other wallet builders, Solana Foundation, and multiple VCs who are interested in what we’re creating, and want to help us on our journey.

Source: https://www.instagram.com/fundamen.to/ Fundamento Studio

In your opinion, what does Solana need to achieve mass adoption?

I vividly remember the first time I sent some USDC to a friend on Solana, and it landed within a second. That kind of speed was mind-boggling to me, someone who was until then used to waiting minutes for confirmation on Ethereum L1. What I want to say is that Solana has all the fundamentals to become a consumer-focused app chain, and all we really need now is some killer apps that cater to wide audiences. With that, I don’t mean just more betting and DeFi, but actual consumer apps where the fact that they run on Solana doesn’t really matter, in the end. I strongly believe that for this to happen, app developers will need to focus on providing users with the best in-app experience possible. If users aren’t thinking about what the app is using as its back-end, then we can achieve true mass adoption.

What role do you envision Verve wallet playing in the broader Solana ecosystem?

Verve belongs to a number of projects that are doing what is called “account abstraction”, meaning that your wallet isn’t your private key or seed phrase, but rather it’s controlled by an on-chain protocol. Storing value in this way has proven to be the best in terms of end-user experience and safety, and we want to see how far we can push this while maintaining Solana’s ethos of low fees and super-fast transactions. We want to enable all kinds of developers to be able to cheaply create wallets that are shared between the user and the app they are interacting with, while offering guarantees that the app can only access what the user allows. Imagine being able to interact with a Discord bot who performs actions for you, while never having to open your wallet, and also having an strict guarantee that the bot can’t ever spend more than 5 USDC in total. This is what we want to enable in the end, and we believe that it can all be done entirely on-chain.

Could you share some insights into your development workflow on Solana?

I remember a thread on X where people were discussing development tools, libraries et cetera, and the best response was “It’s all just CPIs bro”, essentially telling everyone that it doesn’t matter. We try to keep an open mind as to how we’re building out Verve, and we don’t want to lock ourselves into any framework or library in particular. With that being said, Anchor has proven great for prototyping, as it provides a lot of developer comforts. As we built out a proof of concept, we used Anchor to speed up our development process a lot. However, now that we’re building in a much more serious manner, we are looking into going framework-agnostic, while continuously thinking about how to properly test our code, write out proper specifications, etc. For this reason, I think that the best approach, post prototype, is to apply a healthy dose of TDD – Test-driven Development, wherein we write tests in tandem, often even before the actual working code. While it takes us a little longer to work this way, in the long run it pays off, as this way every piece of code comes with its own set of guarantees of correctness.

What advice would you give to aspiring blockchain developers?

Honestly, just get started however you know. Understand Solana’s account model first, that’s the single most important thing when it comes to Solana development. Then, come up with a project or set a goal and work towards it. It’s going to be hard, you’re going to get stuck, but every time you inch forward it will mean that you learned something new. And, when stuck, there’s tons of Discord groups with developers who are happy to help you. Every framework has its own groups, and even Solana has official discord servers dedicated to developers and validators. Development of any kind is always going to be at least a little challenging, and if you can’t appreciate the challenge, I urge you to reconsider career paths. Those challenges are always going to be there, especially if you’re working on something relatively new and uncharted. That being said, development is extremely rewarding, as you’re creating something out of thin air, using your own thoughts. It’s that positive-sum quality that makes software development such an alluring field of work!

We are pleased to welcome Jure Granić-Skender, also known as Pileks, a gifted blockchain developer who is causing a stir […]

[89
733,68,734
post-6976","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-interviews","tag-pileks","tag-solana","tag-verve
["GET
