Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, better known as CZ, has emerged as the leading candidate for a potential 2025 presidential pardon from Donald Trump—at least according to the decentralized betting platform Polymarket.

In the ongoing market titled “Who will Trump pardon in 2025?”, CZ holds a commanding 36% of the wagers, placing him far ahead of other notable figures. Ex-Congressman George Santos and crypto entrepreneur Roger Ver follow with 14% each, while Rudy Giuliani, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and Steve Bannon trail further behind.

From Guilty Plea to Pardon Bid

The speculation around Zhao’s possible pardon comes after his guilty plea in 2023 to money-laundering violations at Binance. He stepped down as CEO and was later sentenced to four months in prison, despite prosecutors seeking a three-year sentence.

In May 2024, Zhao confirmed during a podcast appearance that he had submitted a formal pardon request to the White House. His move sparked comparisons to President Joe Biden’s controversial pardon of his son Hunter Biden.

Lawmakers Raise Red Flags

Zhao’s pardon application has already drawn political scrutiny. Prominent Democrats, including Senator Elizabeth Warren, questioned the timing and implications of his request in a letter addressed to White House officials.

At the center of their concerns is a $2 billion stablecoin initiative known as USD1, involving Binance, World Liberty Financial (WLFI), and Emirati firm MGX. Lawmakers argue that the overlap between this deal and Zhao’s pardon bid raises troubling questions about influence and transparency.

Market Sentiment vs. Political Reality

While Polymarket bettors appear confident that CZ is the frontrunner for Trump’s favor, analysts caution that prediction markets reflect public speculation, not political certainty. Presidential pardons remain highly discretionary and influenced by factors well beyond market wagers.

For now, Changpeng Zhao’s fate sits at the intersection of crypto speculation, political maneuvering, and Trump’s unpredictable approach to presidential powers.
