Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you first got involved in blockchain technology?

Blockchain has become a key area of my interest over the years. However, my primary focus initially was on Artificial Intelligence (AI), where I won two hackathons. My journey into Web3 began during the Web3 Camp at the Petnica Science Center, a ten-day program where I gained important knowledge that set the foundation for my further development. After the camp, a few of us attended ETH Sofia, where we won four bounties — a milestone that marked the beginning of our serious involvement in the Web3 space. Later, I was awarded a grant by a Web3 company, and most recently, I participated in the Blockchain Academy in Lucerne for 20 days, significantly expanding my knowledge and expertise in the blockchain space.

What inspired you to apply for the Polkadot Blockchain Academy, and what was the application process like?

I first learned about the Polkadot Blockchain Academy through a LinkedIn post, and after researching it further, I was inspired by the many positive aspects of the Academy. I decided to apply and was impressed by the rigorous application process. It started with a theoretical test, followed by two technical tasks that required a deep understanding of the subject. After completing the tasks, I had an HR interview. The fact that only 80 out of 900 applicants were selected clearly demonstrates how competitive and selective the process was.

How would you describe the learning experience at the Academy — both technically and personally?

I would rate the experience 10/10 without hesitation. The Academy provided outstanding facilities and ensured everything was perfectly organized. My job was to show up and make the most of the opportunities they offered. The lecturers were excellent, and the Polkadot Blockchain Academy team was incredible. On the technical side, I learned so much, but personally, it was an indescribable experience that left a lasting impression.

Despite the intensity of the program, there was still time for everything — I played more rounds of table football than ever before in my life (I didn’t miss a single break!). I even tried yoga for the first time, went hiking, and we had countless moments of fun and connection. The balance between hard work and enjoyment made it even more special.

What were some of the most challenging concepts or modules you encountered during the program?

The most challenging part was definitely the Assignment. We had six days to complete a technical task that required both time and thoughtful consideration. On top of that, we had daily lessons lasting eight hours. It was the toughest part, but also the most exciting. The motivation never faltered because everyone around you was equally engaged, and there was always the opportunity to collaborate and discuss with others.

Was there a specific moment or mentor at the Academy that left a lasting impression on you?

There were so many inspiring people at the Academy that it’s hard to choose just one, but if I had to highlight someone, it would definitely be David Castro González de Vega (https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidcastro/). He became my role model at the Academy, and his guidance motivated me immensely for everything that lies ahead. In just 20 days, I learned so much from him, and I will always be grateful for the knowledge and wisdom he shared with me.

Beyond the knowledge and mentorship, what truly elevated the entire experience were the people I met along the way. Surrounded by brilliant minds from over 30 countries, each with unique backgrounds, ideas, and stories, I was constantly inspired. Being in such an environment full of talent, drive, and openness pushed me to give my best and then go beyond that. The friendships we built through shared challenges, countless late-night discussions, and the one unforgettable hike where my friends and I barely survived, all of it is truly priceless. Those connections made the Academy not just a learning journey, but a deeply human one.

How do you see Polkadot’s architecture and vision compared to other blockchain ecosystems you’ve encountered?

Polkadot is truly something exceptional. I’ve never encountered anything quite like it before. The ecosystem has a clear vision, and they always find the best possible solutions to challenges. I had the chance to participate in the protocol track, and what fascinated me was how they continuously improve upon each solution. They never settle for mediocrity but constantly strive for perfection in every aspect. What impressed me even more is their long-term mindset, they’re not chasing hype, memecoins, or quick profits. Their focus is on building meaningful, sustainable technology that can shape a better and brighter future.

What advice would you give to future participants of the Polkadot Blockchain Academy — especially those coming from the Balkan region?

Don’t miss this opportunity. It’s truly a life-changing experience. The knowledge you’ll gain, the people you’ll meet, and the memories you’ll create are indescribable. The Academy is intense, and there’s a lot of work to do, but by the time of the closing ceremony, you’ll only remember the beautiful moments and feel fulfilled. It’s an experience that will bring you joy and success, and I assure you — it’s an opportunity you won’t regret.
